Head to Beavers Bend Mining Company & bring your pickaxe, mining helmet and geology encyclopedia to have a great time discovering gemstones, shark teeth, and trilobites the way gold prospectors used to find gold and other gems.  Over 66 feet of sluice (waterway / water channel) allows kids to pan for all these treasures and more! Take a train ride on a 1/3 size replica of the C.P.Huntington S.P. train with Beavers Bend Depot & Trail Rides through beautiful Beavers Bend State Park game reserve. The train runs 2 times per hour and the ride usually takes 15-20 minutes. Riders will sometimes spot some native wildlife, go up and down Wahoo Hill and run through through the train tunnel before pulling back into the station...don't forget your camera.

If you want to feel some wind in your face and see some incredible views of the Ouachita National Forest & Ouachita Mountain range, less than an hour drive north is Talimena National Scenic Byway, a breathtaking 54-mile route known for spectacular fall foliage and gorgeous floral displays in spring.  Make your way through one of the highest mountain ranges between the Rockies and the Appalachians and view one stunning panorama after another through the winding road nestled in the heart of Choctaw Country.  Designated a National Scenic Byway in 2005, the two-lane road features hiking trails and 22 scenic pull-outs at various points along the route.
